“We will not stop the controls until the standards are respected”warns Amélie de Montchalin, the Minister of Action and Public Accounts, Thursday November 6, from a large-scale operation at Paris-Charles de Gaulles airport in Val-d’Oise, where customs are blocking Shein packages during shipment.
“Today, 100% of all packages arriving in the past 24 hours are blocked, 200 000 packages which will be opened by customs officers and the DGCCRF, to feed the three procedures initiated by the Prime Minister”she explains. “We need proof, the platform cannot say that we opened the wrong packages, we will open all the packages”insists the minister.
“This is a Shein check”the Chinese e-commerce site being in the sights of the authorities for having sold child pornography dolls and category A weapons, but “there are other platforms” concerned, assures the Minister of Commerce, Serge Papin. For example, he mentions a report made on Wednesday targeting the Dolls site, for the sale of childish-looking dolls. For now, “we focused on Shein, but we will have to see everything that slips through the cracks. It’s a lot of work that begins”explains the minister.
What emerges from old parcel control operations is that “eight out of ten articles are non-compliant”notes Serge Papin. “This means that it is a system that does not respect our standards, our ecological ambitions, and none of our social rules. It must stop.”
