To fill the social security deficit, health insurance is offensive and go to war against certain general practitioners, who would prescribe too many sick leave. The government tightens the screw of 500 practitioners to encourage them to reduce these judgments, deemed too many and too expensive.

Hunting doctors who prescribe too many sick leave is not new, but it is one of the avenues envisaged by the government to reduce the social security deficit. In March 2024, doctor Jean-Marc Bensoussan was monitored by health insurance, which estimated that he delivered three times more stops than his colleagues from the region. For six months, health insurance therefore checked each judgment it prescribed. “It’s totally scandalous, I have 25 years of career. It puts me in the state of mind of a child who is asked to make 100 lines”he castigated.

Today, 500 general practitioners are encouraged to reduce the delivery of sick leave from 20 to 30 %. In the event of non-compliance, they risk fines. A measure too severe according to Dr René Labarrière, president of the professional exercise section at the Council of the Order of Doctors: “The symptoms that the patient will bring in his difficult to verify, since they are subjective, pain, moral state”underlines the doctor.
