Banking costs applied during an overdraft by certain establishments may be disproportionate, underlines the association of Consumers UFC-Que Choisir, pointing to flat costs 1,000 times higher than those planned from 0.01 euros in overdraft.
Small overdrafts at the bank can end up costing you very much: these fixed costs, billed when your account is in the red, can quickly accumulate. For Yasmine, a bank client, it starts from “10 euros overdraft”to which are added “7 euros agios, it’s excessive”she believes. A student has also had the wrong experience: “It has already happened to me to be in the open and to receive the next day a levy of the bank (…) of 15 euros”he confides.
According to a study by the UFC-Que Choosing, for an overdraft of two euros for a week, a bank quoted by the association should apply agios of 0.01 euros. It actually applies a lump sum minimum of 10 euros, or 1,000 times more expensive than expected. Generally, these costs receive small overdrafts of less than 400 euros, and the charged costs billed can go up to 12 euros. A legal practice, but denounced by the consumer association, which requires their ban, as well as better transparency on the part of banks.
