The Minister responsible for public accounts, Amélie de Montchalin, assured that the government would not suppress the tax advantage for childcare or support for the elderly on Tuesday, June 10. “There are two subjects on which I believe that collectively, we see that it works and that we should not touch: that’s all that affects childcare and that’s all that affects the accompaniment of the elderly”,, said the minister on RTL. “I say it very solemnly: these two subjects are useful, they are effective. (…) There will be no change”She assured, while the government is looking for 40 billion euros in savings for the 2026 budget.
The Minister announced that 26 personal service professions are currently benefiting from a tax benefit corresponding to a income tax credit equal to 50% of the expenses incurred. “Is it a good reimbursement rate? What is the good balance between black work that we do not want to encourage and the good use of public money?”she interviewed. “But I repeat it, everything related to child care, everything related to the accompaniment of the elderly, I do not want to be touched. After, parliamentarians can decide otherwise”she said.
Prime Minister François Bayrou must announce its orientations for the next budget by July 14, to reduce the public deficit to 4.6% of the gross domestic product (GDP) next year, after 5.4% expected this year and 5.8% in 2024. The government favors the reduction of expenses to an increase in taxation. “In all ministries, we can do better. In all ministries, we can ask questions about how to use the money best”said the Minister, including in those of justice, the interior and defense which benefit from multi -year programming laws.
“It’s the last moment to have courage”Used Amélie de Montchalin, recalling that France was the dunce of the euro zone in terms of public deficit. “We have to get back in order”she added, evoking “A risk” of supervision by international institutions such as the IMF. The Minister repeated that she wanted to reduce the number of officials, citing as an example the 25% decrease in the workforce in the Directorate General of Public Finances for ten years.
