The leaders of the Euroligue confirmed this Thursday that the competition would go from 18 to 20 teams from next season, with in particular the arrival of Dubai. Asvel, Monaco and Paris will also be present.
The European rugby cuts have integrated South African franchises for a few seasons. The Euroligue de Basketball will also open beyond the borders of Europe. From next season, the Dubai team, which has been playing since this season in the Adriatic League since this season, will be integrated into the largest of the European basketball cuts, which will go from 18 to 20 teams.
The decision was ratified Thursday on the occasion of the assembly of unionized shareholders of Euroleague Commercial Assets (ECA). In 2025-26, we will therefore find at the kick-off of the regular season anadolu Efes Istanbul, FC Barcelona, Vitoria, Bayern Munich, Olympiakos, Asvel, Fenerbahce (title holder), Panathinaikos, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Real Madrid, Milan and Zalgiris Kaunas Long -term licenses, but also the Red Star of Belgrade, Partizan Belgrade, Valence and Virtus Bologna, who obtained a three -year license, Paris Basketball, with whom the discussions are still underway with the Euroligue for a long -term license, Monaco and Hapoel Tel Aviv, which recently won the Eurocoupe, and therefore Dubai, which received an invitation for five seasons.
On the other hand, the Alba Berlin, which ended the Euroligue last last this season and had no long-term license, will have to play the Eurocoupe (just like Bourg-en-Bresse, which will be the only French representative in the second European Cup, as this season).
Dubai, semi-finalist of the Adriatic League
Like this season, France will therefore have three representatives in the Euroligue from September 30. ASVEL, only 15th, will have to do better, despite its financial problems, while Monaco and Paris remain on a good performance, with a final for the Roca Team and a quarter for the Parisians, who had never played the competition before. Dubai basketball will certainly be the curiosity of the 2025-26 season. The team, which played their games at Coca-Cola Arena (17,000 seats), was eliminated in the semi-finals of the Adriatic League by Partizan Belgrade (future champion).
She is coached by Slovenian JUICA GOLEMAC (former Paris-Levallois player) and has some known players in his ranks, such as French Jerry Boutsiele, Latvian David Bertans or Slovenian Klemen Prepelic. Will she be able to climb in play-offs from her first participation?
