Time and the weather are playing against lavender producers in Provence, forced to start their harvest in advance in the face of the hot weather and the drought that falls on the fields.
She is the star of the beginning of summer in Provence: lavender offers a dream decor to visitors. Married young people come to take photos in the fields, and tourists pose, sometimes came from afar to admire these landscapes. “It’s a very nice place (…) We came to admire the fields”explains a tourist from Hong Kong, China.
On the Valensole plateau (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), the locals also brave the heat wave to attend the show. Already fleeting in normal times, the landscape should change even faster this year. Some machines are already running in the rows of lavandins. The heat wave dries up plants: a producer therefore started his harvest with a week in advance. In Valensole, the harvest of the Lavandin should continue in the coming days, because no rain is announced.
