The LFP formalized Friday the implementation of a new rule in Ligue 1 from next season.
Ligue 1 will not only change broadcaster next season. A new rule will also appear. The Professional Football League, which organizes the French championship, officially announced this Friday in a press release, after a reflection led by a working group aimed at improving the product.
It is on a disciplinary level that things will evolve. While so far an actor, whether a player or coach, was automatically suspended a match after having received three yellow cards over a period of ten matches, this sanction will evolve from the financial year 2025-2026, which will start on weekends of August 16 and 17.
Ligue 1 imitates the other championships
“From now on, the rule will consist of an automatic suspension match for five yellow cards without taking into account the period of ten matchesIndicates the LFP. This new simplified rule has been adopted by the LFP board of directors of June 3 and will apply in Ligue 1, in Ligue 2, in the French Cup and the Champions Trophy. »»
French football therefore imitates its European neighbors, who already applied this rule in their respective championships.
“Like every season, all disciplinary counters have been reset to the warnings for the first day”specifies the body.
