LIn first phase of the ceasefire, started in Gaza on January 19, held as best they could, but the prospects for implementing the second-that which should allow the release of all the remaining hostages, in exchange for that of Palestinian prisoners and the total withdrawal of the Israeli army of the Gaza Strip-seem much more uncertain. Even more is much more the outcome of this war, and, more fundamentally, that of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Two paths are possible: one led to an endless war, the other opens towards perspectives of peace.
Benyamin Netanyahu knows how to count on the unwavering support of the American president, Donald Trump, who reiterated the idea of a displacement of the Gazan population to Jordan and Egypt. This proposal, advocated for a long time by the Israeli right and extreme right, is perfectly suited to the Israeli Prime Minister. “I have to respect Donald Trump’s plan for the creation of another Gaza”,, he recently declared.
For the West Bank, a central objective of its policy, it intensifies colonization by relying on the violent action of the most extremist colonists, while suppressing, by all means, the slightest form of resistance to occupation. The army now uses the same methods as in Gaza with air bombings, the systematic destruction of urban spaces and the forced transfer of tens of thousands of Palestinians outside the refugee camps of Jenine, Tulkarem and Nour Shams, with a ban on returning. Some evoke colonization projects in place of these camps.
Central role of UNRWA
It is in this context that UNRWA, the UN Agency for Aid for Palestinian Refugees, whose role is vital for hundreds of thousands of people, is the target of the Israeli government – which wants nothing less than its term disappearance – and which is now unable to carry out its activities in this occupied territory and in Jerusalem. Finally, the last fundamental point, in -depth discussions are underway between the Israeli government and the White House so that Israel annexed all or part of the West Bank.
