France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany say that the plan of $ 53 billion shows a “realistic” path towards the reconstruction of devastated Gaza after 15 months of war.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and several European nations supported the Arab Plan recently revealed for Gaza after 15 months of the devastating war of Israel against the besieged enclave.
Foreign ministers in France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom said on a joint statement on Saturday that they had supported a plan for the reconstruction of Gaza at a cost of $ 53 billion.
“The plan shows a realistic path to the reconstruction of Gaza and promises – if it is implemented – a rapid and lasting improvement in catastrophic living conditions for Palestinians living in Gaza,” the press release said.
He added that Hamas “should neither govern Gaza nor be a threat to Israel” and that the four countries “support the central role of the Palestinian Authority and the implementation of its reform program”.
The plan was developed by Egypt and adopted by Arab leaders at a summit of the Arab League in Cairo this month.
Earlier on Saturday, the 57 -members’s OIC also officially adopted the plan at an emergency meeting in Djeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The body, which represents the Muslim world, urged “the international community and the international and regional financing institutions to quickly provide the support necessary for the plan”.
The plan supported by Arabic is considered to be a counter-proposal from the suggestion of the American president Trump The Gaza Strip is depopulated to “develop” the enclave, under American control, in what was called ethnic cleaning.
The Arab plan consists of three main steps: provisional measures, reconstruction and governance.
The first step would last about six months, while the following two phases would take place over four to five years combined.
The objective is to rebuild Gaza – which Israel has almost completely destroyed – maintaining peace and security and reaffirming the governance of the Palestinian Authority (PA) on the territory.
‘Does not meet expectations’
However, the Arab plan has already been criticized and rejected by the United States and Israel.
Washington’s “does not meet Washington’s expectations, the journalists spokeswoman for the State Department.
Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, however, gave a more positive reaction, calling him a “first step in good faith of the Egyptians”.
