The new President of the United States had promised an economic offensive concerning customs taxes, but he confronts many barriers, especially those of the largest American car manufacturers.

This is a major point that Donald Trump put forward during his presidential campaign: customs duties. While he promised very high taxes (25% for Mexico and Canada), Donald Trump finally suspended them until April 2, recognizing that it would have had too big impact on American car companies.

Indeed, the three largest manufacturers in the country, namely Ford, Stellantis and General Motors, made their veto. For good reason, by increasing customs duties on automotive parts that pass between Mexico or Canada, production costs have been greater. A process that would have advantaged foreign manufacturers.
