In the midst of a financial crisis, Renault is about to turn the Alpine page. The tricolor stable could disappear from the paddock.
The future of Alpine F1 is seriously darkening. In full financial turmoil, Renault, owner of the stable, sees his situation deteriorating. In a few days, the action of the French manufacturer has lost 20 % of its stock market value. Faced with this crisis, the group is looking for radical solutions. Among them: the sale of Alpine F1.
For several weeks, Renault has launched a large cost reduction operation. The Viry-Châtillon engine plant, a historic symbol of the brand in F1, has been closed. In Enstone, in the United Kingdom, several hundred positions have been removed. Behind these decisions, we find Flavio Briatore, returned to the team’s controllers to make it more “Vendable”.
A new owner from 2026
Because it is a sale that is looming, announce several media. Renault no longer wants to assume colossal expenses linked to F1 alone, estimated at several hundred million euros per year. Already 25 % owned by an investor consortium (including Otro Capital and Redbird), the Alpine stable could completely go under a private pavilion. By lightening its salary structure and by reducing its assets, Renault hopes to make the project attractive for new investors.
Sportingly, Alpine has experienced sawtooth results. However, the team did not confirm Renault’s ambitions to play the outposts. The 2025 season is particularly difficult, and
internal changes contributed to a climate of uncertainty among pilots as in engineers.
Unless there is a turnaround, the story between Renault and Formula 1 should be coming to an end. The French manufacturer, present in F1 since the 1970s, seems ready to turn the page. A new owner could resume the torch in 2026, with a new era which will open without the diamond.
