Butchers, cheese makers, bakers, primers … Craftsmen have to pay an eco -tax on packaging. It rises to a maximum of two euro cents at each checkout.
In its three brands, a baker from Marcq-en-Barœul (north) flows nearly 5,000 packaging per day. To finance their recycling, eco-contribution will cost it nearly 6,000 euros per year. “We already pay local taxes, so I think that it is up to communities and municipalities to pay recycling”, Estem Mathieu Philippe, craftsman baker.
Butchers, cheese makers, primers, chocolate makers … More than 12,000 craftsmen are affected in Hauts-de-France. “We manage craftsmen as if we were managing someone who could take euros in his pocket and give them”regrets Laurent Rigaud, president of the Chamber of Trades and Crafts. The merchant must pay a sum at each checkout with a contribution of 2 cents to the maximum according to his heart of activity. In France, packaging represents almost 2% of overall greenhouse gas emissions.
