On the production channels of the Stellantis group in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin), the manufacture of the 308, 408 and DS7 will soon be suspended. At the end of October, 2,000 employees out of 4,600 will be partial unemployed for a week. A blow for employees. “We are all a little skeptical for the future. Are we going to end our career here or not?” says one of them.

It is a brake to adapt to downward sales on the automotive market. According to Salah Keltoumi, CGT Stellantis delegate, the measure will weigh on the pay sheets: “They will lose more than 15 % of their income and, for temporary workers, they will be zero. So, for them, it is a dry loss. It is in a context, in addition, of extreme uncertainty for the automobile in general and for the site also.”

Since the start of the year, sales of new vehicles in the group have dropped by almost 10 %. As a result, several factories are temporarily stopped in Poissy in the Yvelines, as well as in five other European sites in the group. Stellantis would have been late in the face of his competitors.

Arnaud Aymé, an automotive specialist at the SIA cabinet, explains: “Today Stellantis is struggling to maintain its market share in Europe on thermal. There are models that are in transition and therefore all this leads to a drop in sales.”

A drop in sales, but also supplier problems that slow down production. The Sochaux factory (Doubs), for example, will have to stop its activity for several days in October.
