When driving, it is often easy to lose control. One in two French people believe they have already experienced aggressive behavior on the road. A motorist says:“There are insults every day, it’s getting worse and worse.” Another has often witnessed it: “I’ve seen times where people came to blows directly.”

From verbal jousting to physical violence, it sometimes ends in tragedy. A year ago, on October 15, 2024, a motorist ran over a cyclist following an altercation.

It is for this sad anniversary that posters will be put up everywhere in France. You can read there “Priority to respect”a campaign specifically against violence on the road, a first of its kind.

Michèle Lugrand, interministerial delegate for road safety, underlines:“Being in your bubble encourages anonymity and aggressiveness. We needed to launch a big movement and a big awareness that it’s a public space, everyone has their place.”

The poster campaign will be visible from October 15 to 21 in 800 major French cities.
