In the hot seat for several days, Patrick Vieira ended up being ousted by Genoa, dead last in Serie A.
The Italian adventure is over for Patrick Vieira. While Genoa has been in great difficulty since the start of the season, the French coach thought he had obtained a reprieve with the sidelining of the club’s sporting director on Friday. Vieira’s head also ended up falling this Saturday.
The French coach thus pays for the very difficult start to the championship for his team, bottom of Serie A with three points taken in nine days, and only four goals scored. Vieira is initially replaced by Roberto Murgita and Domenico Criscito, responsible for preparing the trip to Sassuolo on Monday evening.
Vieira saved Genoa last season
After coaching New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace and Strasbourg, Patrick Vieira arrived at Genoa in November 2024, when the Ligurian club was flirting with the red zone. The 1998 world champion had managed to keep his team fairly calm, but the momentum has been broken since the resumption of the championship.
“The club would like to thank the coach and his team for the dedication and professionalism they have shown throughout their work and wishes them the best for the rest of their careers”indicates Genoa in its press release.
