Iga Swiatek won against Madison Keys (6-1, 6-2) for the debut of the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia. The Pole corrected the American in just 1h01 of play.
The Riyadh public had no interest in coming late to the stands of the Women’s Masters. For her entry into the running, Iga Swiatek offered a lesson to the spectators. 1h01 of match, three games left to Madison Keys and a logical victory for the Pole. Impressively efficient, Swiatek was very close to inflicting a 6-0 on her opponent in barely 20 minutes. Broken twice in the first set, the American saved honor on her serve, one of the weak points of this first set. Three double faults (7 in total in the match), only 45% of points behind his first ball and 15 unforced errors, Keys did not exist. Opposite, the Polish woman got the machine going very quickly. An anthology of winning shots, 90% of points behind his first ball and only three points left on serve for a first set won 6-1.
Swiatek omnipresent, Keys outdated
Difficult to analyze and find encouraging points in this match for the winner of the Australian Open. A double fault still left the break at the start of the set to Swiatek. The single rider continued to already lead 5-1 in the second set. At the end of the third match point, the Pole finally concluded a one-sided match. Better on his legs with some flashes on his forehand in the second set, Keys still managed to take his opponent’s service before obtaining two break points at 5-2. A short-lived hope in the face of the domination of the world number two.
This first victory launches Swiatek perfectly into these WTA Finals, well placed to qualify in the last four. In the event of a victory against Elena Rybakina, the Pole could validate her ticket for the semi-finals. For her part, Keys will have a complicated duel against her American compatriot Amanda Anisimova to get back on track.
