It’s as if nature were declaring its love for us. As if, even at 12 degrees, she was trying to warm us up. A ground covered with leaves where, for a Franco-German family, chestnuts are hidden in the Vosges. “There, we have lots of chestnuts that we found next to the path. We will try to prepare them this afternoon to taste them“, enthuses the father of the family.
Unlike them, Marceau, 3 years old, has decided to collect everything he finds, without distinction. The only break in his quest is to study the map. “We are in a pretty forest with leaves of all colors. We have yellow, orange, green…“, describes his mother while walking in a Vosges forest.
Beyond the colors, there is this scent of wet wood. A cyclist improvised this outing just to feel autumn tickle his calves. “It’s a pleasure to cycle under the falling leaves. Then there are those smells of fall. It’s worth going out, even if it rains a little“, assures the cyclist.
Autumn, a period of significant tourist attendance in the Vosges. At the Col de la Schlucht, in the middle of the All Saints’ Day weekend, tourists are waiting for their turn. Rail sledding is taking advantage of fall.
In this season, the poetic atmosphere also attracts artists. 80 kilometers away, an isolated valley. “So here, I come to record the sound of this spring which started flowing again this fall.” Jim Petit captures the sounds of nature with his tape recorder to compose sound worlds. “I have the sound of the little splashes of a spring coming out into the air, but I also have the sound that is happening underground. But at that time, the water starts to flow harder, so the sound of the rivers is louder. At least that’s what autumn really is.“, celebrates the artist.
Colorful landscapes which, in a few weeks, will fade to give way to the whiteness of winter in the mountains.
