Atlético de Madrid relaunched in the Champions League on Tuesday thanks to their success against Union Saint-Gilloise. Juventus can’t do it.
There were not only the PSG-Bayern Munich (1-2) and Liverpool-Real Madrid (1-0) shocks this Tuesday, during the fourth day of the Champions League league phase. At the same time, Atlético de Madrid won at home against Union Saint-Gilloise (3-1), Tottenham enjoyed themselves against Copenhagen (4-0) and Juventus disappointed again, this time against Sporting (1-1).
Alternating victories and defeats since the start of its European campaign, Atlético respected its logic by winning at home, two weeks after the spanking received at Arsenal (4-0). Against Union Saint-Gilloise, Diego Simeone’s men upheld logic by winning 3-1. Antoine Griezmann had a goal denied for offside (45th+3). This success allows the Colchoneros to move up very temporarily to fourteenth place.
For its part, Tottenham put on a show at home against FC Copenhagen (4-0).
Like Micky van de Ven’s goalthe Spurs had fun, despite the direct red card received by Brennan Johnson (55th). Holder, Randal Kolo Muani did not shine. He received a yellow card (39th) and was replaced at the start of the second half (51st). Tottenham climbs to seventh place and Copenhagen, with this third consecutive defeat and only one point on the clock, finds itself thirty-third.
Juventus borders on the red zone
Another more than disappointing series, that of Juventus. After two draws and a defeat, the Turinese did not do better than another draw this Tuesday, moreover at home (1-1). Certainly, they had four times more shooting opportunities than Sporting, their opponent of the day (18 to 4), but they did not take advantage of them.
The Bianconeri are therefore vegetating at the limit of the qualifying places, in twenty-third position. As for Sporting, it remains in tenth place.
