Retirement will wait a little longer for Victor Lafay. Indeed, hampered by numerous injuries recently, the Frenchman seemed hesitant about the rest of his career. Speaking to Eurosport, the native of Lyon and winner of a stage during the Tour de France in 2023 even mentioned the idea of becoming a cheesemaker in Japan. This will not be the case for the moment because the 29-year-old rider will stay at least one more season in the peloton.
At the end of his contract at the end of the year with Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale and visibly coveted by several teams, Lafay has decided for his future and will sign up for a year with Unibet Rose Rockets, according to information from L’Equipe. Currently known as Unibet Tietema Rockets, its future team was created a few years ago by Dutch YouTuber and former runner Bas Tietema and is growing little by little.

While it will change its name at the start of 2026, the training is currently evolving in Pro Team (i.e. the second division of cycling) and under French license. Very ambitious, Unibet Rose Rockets has already managed to obtain some great signings for next season. Indeed, the sprinter Dylan Groenewegen (who was with the Jayco AlUla team) and the climber Wout Poels (who was with XDS Astana) have already signed up for 2026.
With the two Dutchmen and now Lafay, who ended the year in 2nd place in the general classification of the Tour of Guangxi, Unibet Rose Rockets is giving itself a little more means to dream of an invitation for the next edition of the Tour de France, which would put them in the big leagues. Especially since the recruitment of the team would not yet be finished. According to Vélo-Club, Clément Venturini, who will have to find something else after the cessation of Arkéa-B&B Hotels, is also in discussions to sign there.
