A small one euro coin for a traditional baguette instead of 1.30 euros. A bakery in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) cuts prices for three months. The reduction appeals to customers. “If it allows people to come to the store, and if it allows people who have little means to buy bread cheaper, that’s very good”says a woman. “It’s good, but it’s going to be expensive for the traders,” shares a customer.
The operation has a cost, in fact: 10,000 euros, estimates the establishment. Because the baguette, whose dough ferments for 18 hours, is the bakery’s flagship product. It represents 70% of sales. With a low price, the baker hopes to reach as many customers as possible.
“The objective is to really impact all the customers who are regular and other customers who want to come for the opportunity of the one euro baguette. It’s really to thank our customers who we see every day and other customers who want to discover the product”says Ludovic Guillot, manager of Oldü bakeries.
On the first day of promotion, the recipe was successful. “Positive feedback. They are happy. We also see that the quantities are increasing”notes Amandine Orion, saleswoman. A boost for purchasing power. This operation continues until the end of January.
