Shein is in the government’s sights. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has launched a procedure to suspend the Chinese platform in France, after the discovery of child pornography dolls, but also weapons, sold on the site. An announcement which comes on the same day as the opening of the brand’s first permanent store in France.

The Chinese giant Shein thought it would inaugurate the century by opening its first store in the world in the heart of Paris. But barely an hour and a half later, the platform found itself in turmoil again. The government wants to strike hard and threatens to suspend the site.
“Senators, on instructions from the Prime Minister, the government is initiating the procedure to suspend Shein”announced Serge Papin, Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, Commerce, Crafts and Tourism, to the National Assembly this Wednesday, November 5. Because this morning, illegal weapons, such as knives, could still be found on sale on the site. One more scandal, a few days after the child pornography dolls.
Concretely, this evening, the government is starting two procedures. One with the repression of fraud; Shein has 48 hours to clean up and remove from sale all illicit products offered by third-party sellers. At the same time, justice is also referred to the Ministry of the Interior. Two procedures, one objective: suspend the Shein site in France.
The store’s customers are divided: “If there was the sale of arms, it’s a bit boring, let’s say. It ruins everything”believes a woman. But another disagrees: “I don’t see why we would close the Shein site, you see, clothes-wise”she asks herself. A client doubts the legitimacy of acting now: “Why didn’t they do it well before? Why only now? Because there’s the BHV establishment? Maybe they should have woken up long before, I think, right?”
This afternoon, in a press release, the platform claims to have anticipated. Shein had already decided and announced the temporary suspension of uploads from independent third-party sellers. The government has already used this procedure in the past for the Wish site, which was suspended after the sale of non-compliant and dangerous products. For Shein, if a single weapon is still on the market in two days, the delisting process will be initiated.
