Two ministers went to Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle airport for a high-profile operation aimed at checking Shein products just arriving by plane. Around fifty agents were mobilized from 8 a.m. to exceptionally open 100% of the packages.

Among these packages, some contained non-compliant contact lenses, which were immediately thrown away. Others contained potentially dangerous toys, which were sent to labs for testing. An agent explains: “We look to see if the toys can cause a choking risk, if there are parts that can come off”

The government’s stated objective is clear: to show its intransigence in the face of non-compliant products from Chinese platforms. Serge Papin, Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, Commerce and Crafts, declared during a press briefing: “There are 8 out of 10 articles that are non-compliant” These non-compliant products have been regularly highlighted by consumer associations. We thus find potentially flammable USB chargers, jewelry containing harmful materials and dangerous toys due to small detachable parts.

Cyril Brosset, from UFC-Que Choisir, warns: “They are taking risks, risks for themselves, risks for their children, by buying toys intended for children under three years old. There are really serious problems. If you have them, you have to use them under supervision, or even ideally put them in the trash.”

This morning, the toys searched for on the site could not be found, the platform claiming to have removed all the resellers, retaining only the sale of Shein brand clothing.
