Tunisia participated, Thursday, November 6, 2025 in Algiers, in a ministerial meeting devoted to the situation in Libya, alongside Algeria and Egypt, within the framework of the tripartite mechanism of neighboring countries. According to the final communiqué from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published at the end of the meeting, the three countries reaffirmed their commitment to supporting a Libyan political outcome under the aegis of the United Nations.
The ministers stressed that the solution to the crisis must be “Libyan-Libyan”, affirming that the future of the country can only be determined by Libyans themselves, with respect for territorial unity, independence and state institutions. They recalled that the objective remains the resumption of an inclusive political process, based on the United Nations road map.
The three countries called on all Libyan stakeholders to seriously engage in dialogue, to prioritize the national interest and to overcome the current blockages which are delaying the organization of simultaneous presidential and legislative elections. These are seen as a necessary step to close a decade of divisions and suspended transitions.
The press release also emphasizes the importance of comprehensive national reconciliation, including all components of the Libyan people. The ministers noted that security and development are inseparable, believing that institutional reconstruction and economic recovery must advance in a coordinated manner to ensure lasting stability.
Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt have also reaffirmed their opposition to any foreign interference in Libyan affairs, which they consider responsible for the aggravation and prolongation of the crisis. They called for the withdrawal of all mercenaries and foreign fighters, the consolidation of the ceasefire, and the continuation of the work of the joint military commission to reunify Libyan security forces and military institutions.
The three capitals finally underlined the need to maintain close coordination with the United Nations, the Arab League and the African Union for any political initiative linked to Libya. They reaffirmed their desire to continue to support the Libyan people in their aspirations for stability, security and development.
According to the press release from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the next meeting of the tripartite mechanism will be held in Tunisia, on a date to be fixed later through diplomatic channels.
