Parcels from the Asian platform brand Shein were meticulously checked by customs officers at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport (Val-d’Oise), Thursday November 6. A vast operation was initiated in the morning, in the presence of the Minister of Commerce and the Minister of Public Accounts.

“Today, 100% of all packages arrived in the past 24 hours are blocked. 200,000 packages will be opened by customs officers to feed the three procedures that were initiated by the Prime Minister”explains Amélie de Montchalin, Minister of Action and Public Accounts.

Among the items singled out are unauthorized cosmetic products, dangerous toys for children, counterfeits and even faulty household appliances. “Eight out of ten articles are non-compliant. It is a system which obviously does not respect our standards, not our ecological ambitions, any of the social rules”declares Serge Papin, Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and Trade.

As part of the platform suspension procedure launched on Wednesday by the government, Shein has 48 hours to comply with French law. In a letter addressed to the Ministry of the Economy, the boss of the platform assured his unwavering commitment to respecting all French laws. He even suggests a meeting in Bercy to present the compliance framework and the firm and immediate measures taken by the e-commerce giant.
