Qualified for the 2026 World Cup thanks to their victory over Ukraine this Thursday (4-0), the Blues will be seeded next summer.
The French team was invited Thursday to a 17e World Cup (out of 23 editions), victorious for Ukraine at the Parc des Princes to ensure its place in the United States, Mexico and Canada next summer. An expected result which is nonetheless accompanied by a second piece of good news.
For the draw for the group stage of the 2026 World Cup – an event scheduled for next Friday, December 5 at the Kennedy Center in Washington – the Blues will benefit from top seed status. Or a protected status for the initial phase of the competition.
Already seven seeds out of 12 known
Third nation in the world in the FIFA rankings behind Spain and Argentina, France, by thus validating its direct qualification for the ultimate tournament, has sealed its place in the hierarchy and will therefore oversee one of the 12 groups of four teams in this first World Cup in history with 48 participants.
This will also be the case for the three organizing countries: the United States, Mexico and Canada. And this will also be the case for Argentina, Brazil and England, others qualified at this time. The bottom five seeds are expected to include Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands. The last two tickets seem to be played between Germany, Belgium and Italy; even Croatia and Morocco.
