The trial of Mohamed Jihad Mejdoub, a third-year medical student at the Faculty of Sfax, has been postponed again until December 8, 2025, his lawyer Me Nadia Chaouachi announced on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
The defense expressed its disappointment at the refusal of the request for provisional release, hoping for a favorable outcome during this new hearing.
Arrested on September 26, 2023 in the governorate of Kasserine while staying with a friend, Mohamed Jihad Mejdoub was arrested by security agents while he was looking for a means of transport to return home. According to his family, no justification was provided to him at the time.
His father claims that his appearance – particularly his beard – would have aroused suspicion. The search of his bag revealed a small Quran and a prayer garment, while his phone was allegedly searched without judicial authorization. These elements led to his transfer to Tunis for investigation by the anti-terrorist brigade.
Sentenced at first instance to ten years in prison for alleged membership of a group linked to terrorist activities and for preparing acts of violence, the student is currently detained in Mornaguia prison.
His relatives denounce difficult detention conditions, citing prison overcrowding, health problems and repeated restrictions on visits.
Me Nadia Chaouachi recalled that the file “presents many gray areas” and that the defense continues to demand a fair trial and the immediate release of its client, pending the final decision of the court.
