Is there anything more exhilarating than taking flight? Perhaps do it in the heart of one of the most beautiful bays in the world, that of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). In the early morning, paragliders and hang gliders are part of the landscape. For Alban Dubois, a French tourist, and his Brazilian partner, this is a first. “It’s my birthday present, I’m very happy to be here. It’s the city of my heart. So, I feel more happy than worried”explains the young woman.

But when it’s time to set off, the speech changes a little: “My heart is beating hard!” Let’s go for about ten minutes of flight. Skim the reliefs, see the city differently. A unique experience at 120 euros per person. “Incredible, magnificent. And what’s more, doing this with my wife is great”rejoices Alban Dubois.

Faced with so much enthusiasm, it’s impossible not to want to try it ourselves. Free flight is practiced here all year round. Summer and winter alike, the mild temperature allows you to soar with the birds. According to our instructor, tourists love this atypical view of Rio: “The contrast between the forest, the mountains, the rock and the sea. That’s what makes it special. We call it the Wonderful City”.

In high season, 200 paragliders take off over Rio every day. Bruno Menescal was the first to do it 40 years ago, returning from France. According to him, paragliders have changed the image of the city: “Even when we arrive at the airport, there are images of the reliefs of Rio with hang gliders and paragliders”he emphasizes. Swap the beach for the clouds. Rio, seen from above, a city as unique as it is photogenic.
