The legislative initiative relating to the importation of vehicles at the original rate has, to date, still not been submitted to parliamentary examination, contrary to what was stated on Saturday November 29, 2025.
Several publications relayed on social networks and certain media have argued that the text would have been rejected by the ARP and, therefore, definitively abandoned. This is not the case.
Adopted in committee, this initiative establishes an exceptional regime for the benefit of Tunisians residing on the national territory. It would offer them, on an exceptional and non-renewable basis, the possibility of importing a vehicle at the original price or of acquiring one on the local market under the same advantageous terms.
This system, open to citizens aged over thirty as well as to households meeting specific socio-economic conditions – notably an income ceiling set at eighteen times the minimum wage for couples – has aroused great enthusiasm among the population.
The project also provides priority access for families caring for a person with a disability, provided that they have never benefited from a preferential regime for the purchase of an adapted vehicle.
In addition, the text strictly regulates the characteristics of eligible vehicles: the age of the vehicle imported or acquired from an approved dealer cannot exceed ten years, and its fiscal power is limited to seven horsepower.
So many provisions which explain the wait, sometimes feverish, that it arouses – and the hasty propagation of erroneous information regarding its legislative fate.
