“I am not going to vote for the suspension of a reform which I think was necessary”declared Sunday, November 30, former Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne on the subject of pension reform. “It’s a reform that bears my name, so I do not wish to participate in the vote on this reform,” she adds on the set of “Political Questions” on France Interfranceinfo TV and The World. As part of the budgetary debate, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu conceded to the Socialists a suspension of the pension reform until 2028. It was voted on by the deputies then withdrawn by the senators, before a new passage of the text before the deputies.

The former Prime Minister, now a Renaissance deputy for Calvados, says she “open to the debate taking place” on this subject. But, to ensure the balance of the pay-as-you-go retirement system, “there is no magic wand that exempts those who can from working longer”she believes.
Nevertheless, improvements can be found on the issue of arduousness, adds Elisabeth Borne, recognizing that there are “blind spots”. “This is all the discussion that took place within the framework of the conclave”However, this conclave was unsuccessful, she regrets: “If everyone had taken it upon themselves – and I am thinking in particular of Medef – at the time of the conclave discussion to find a way forward with the unions, in particular the CFDT which had made proposals in particular to better take into account the factors of hardship”this conclave could have had interesting opportunities.

Concerning the entire budget for 2026, the Ensemble pour la République MP affirms that her camp is “open to compromise” but that it is not “it is not possible to continue to widen the deficit”.

Asked about the use of article 49.3, which allows the budget to be adopted without a vote, Elisabeth Borne believes that “people don’t care about the method, they want a budget”. For the former Prime Minister, who used 49.3 on several occasions, it is “It is essential that we have a budget for the country, there are different ways to achieve this and this is part of the discussions that the Prime Minister must have with the different groups represented in the National Assembly.”
