What if a French driver arrived in F1?

Crowned in F1 Academy last month, Doriane Pin (21) now aspires to one day climb into the F1 seat, like two other women before her. The young French champion is aware that she is tackling a mountain, but she wants to believe in it nonetheless. By taking advantage of the advice of George Russell, who helped her a lot this season.

After the Italian Leila Lombardi, the only one to score points in the premier category, and the South African Desiré Wilson, winner of a race but outside the world championship, Doriane Pin would sign with her eyes closed to become the third woman to drive in F1. Recently titled in F1 Academy, a sort of “Star Academy” of Formula 1 reserved only for women, the young French champion dreams of embracing the same destiny as Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Isack Hadjar, our three representatives of the moment in the paddock, or even Sébastien Ogier who has also just written history (“He’s a legend of motorsport. It’s exceptional what he’s done. He makes everyone dream and me too. Having a career like him, that would be crazy).

The Ile-de-France resident is aware that the road that awaits her to realize her dream risks being strewn with pitfalls, but she nevertheless wants to believe in it, especially after this coronation which could open many doors for her, and quickly at that. “It’s a consecration. There is a lot of work upstream but I hope this is the start of something big, with opportunities to come (…) I dream of Formula 1, I dream of putting my butt in a Formula 1 and performing. I give everything for my dream, but the road is still long,” admitted Pin, guest Sunday evening of France 3 as part of the Stade 2 show.

Pin: “George (Russell) has been a great support this season”

The native of Ivry-sur-Seine is certain that she will have her chance and that her time will come. “Rocket Pocket” – her nickname since her early years of karting, she who was French champion in the specialty – knows that she will then have to prove herself, at the risk of permanently letting the train pass by. “It’s a question of time and establishing respect in this particularly masculine world. We have to bring back the performances and the results to show that we clearly have our place at the top, up there in F1 (…) and convince people and show that you want to and that you only have that in mind.”

As had already been the case this year, the young French pocket pilot (she measures 1.59m) will be able to count on a certain George Russell. “I have the opportunity to speak with Mercedes and the two drivers. George has been a great support this season and even last season, with Lewis (Hamilton, his lifelong idol) next door (…) For Las Vegas, especially, his advice has been valuable” One thing is certain: Pin is determined to make things happen. “It’s up to us to show that we all have our place in motorsport, regardless of gender.”
