This call for a strike by three unions (the CGT, FSU and Solidaires) was much less popular than in September and October. Example in Paris: the CGT counted 17,000 participants. During the last days of demonstrations on the same theme, at the call of a broader inter-union movement, the Ministry of the Interior counted 55,000 (September 18) then 24,000 (October 2).
While the 2026 Social Security budget returned to the National Assembly on Tuesday, the CGT, the FSU and Solidaires had called for demonstrations against the doubling of medical deductibles, the freezing of retirement pensions and social benefits or even “the violent drop in the budget of hospitals and nursing homes, culture, associations and communities”.
