Lawyer and human rights activist Ayachi Hammami was arrested this Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at his home, close sources indicated.
Ayachi Hammami was the subject of an appeal judgment in the so-called case of “plot against state security”. The Court of Appeal sentenced him to five years in prison (and two years of administrative supervision), compared to eight years at first instance.
A well-known figure in democratic activism and former coordinator of the National Committee for the Defense of Political Prisoners, Ayachi Hammami had always denounced an affair “assembled from scratch” and with a political dimension.
His arrest comes in a climate of strong tensions between the authorities and several civil society actors, who denounce increasing repression.
