The CA Brive announced the recruitment of the Irish international scrum half John Cooney for the next two seasons, from the Ulster.

The 34-year-old melee half signed until June 2027 with the Corrézien club, coming from the Ulster, from which he has been carrying the colors since 2017. The native of Dublin has experienced three of the largest Irish provinces (Lenster, Criva and therefore Ulster) but wished to offer himself an experience, perhaps the last of his career, abroad.
He set his sights on the club currently third of Pro D2 (tied with the second, Provence) and therefore in the race to go up in Top 14. “I am very happy to join Brive, it is an ambitious club that shares my values. French rugby has long attracted me. I can’t wait to meet the supporters and note this new challenge, “said Cooney, who was also coveted by Bordeaux-Bègles, on the site of his future team.

During his career, John Cooney, played 27 games between 2011 and 2014 with Lenster, with whom he became European champion in 2012, then 40 with the Connacht (2014-17), but it was at the Ulster that he became an idol, with already 152 games, 1162 points and 33 trials on the clock. His performances with the Belfast franchise allowed him to discover the Ireland team. He played seven games from the 6 Nations Tournament and four Test-Matchs between June 2017 and February 2020.
