Announced by Emmanuel Macron during his speech to French troops in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, the future aircraft carrier intended to replace the Charles de Gaulle will be built at the Atlantique shipyards in Saint-Nazaire, according to information from ICI Loire Océan.

Scheduled for 2038, it will measure 310 meters long and weigh 80,000 tonnes, almost twice as much as the Charles de Gaulle, specifies ICI Loire Océan. A colossal project which will require “15,000 employment contracts, according to manufacturers”within the next five years, explains the mayor of Saint-Nazaire, David Samzun. “It is a source of great pride and great serenity to know that the Nazaire industrial employment area is ‘parked’ in terms of employment”the councilor is satisfied.

To monitor the construction site, 4,000 soldiers will be deployed to Saint-Nazaire, in order to take possession of this future industrial flagship. David Samzun still calls for government support for this project: “I say to the French State: give us the means to support this industrial development and not to slow it down.”
