Towards the creation of training solely for driving electric vehicles? This is a proposal unveiled Monday, December 22 by electricity manufacturers, to which an apprentice adheres. “I think that young people have really taken the cause of ecology to heart, myself included, and so it’s attractive to say that the world is moving forward”confides Perla Courchaure, student.
Nassim Bouzid, the instructor, also welcomes the environmental approach. For him, a new purely electric license would change practically nothing in learning to drive compared to the already existing automatic transmission license. “It’s gentle driving, so the fact of being electric will not necessarily change the candidate’s approach to risk on the road”assures Nassim Bouzid.
To put forward its idea of a new driving license, the association of electricians, which includes EDF and Engie, suggests helping driving schools to buy, thanks to a zero-interest loan financed by the State, electric cars. According to these large groups, the aid would make it possible to offer permits cheaper than current training. But motorist associations fear the exclusive nature of this possible future license. “If we decided to create a specific license for driving electric vehicles, it could be discriminatory. That is to say, motorists could not have the right to drive a thermal vehicle, which makes absolutely no sense”worries Pierre Chasseray, general delegate of the 40 million motorists Association.
With an environmental vocation and aimed at encouraging electric driving, the proposal for a new driving license must be studied by the government. Manufacturers would like the system to be accompanied by purchasing assistance. An electric car is often much more expensive than a thermal vehicle.
