Guerschon Yabusele, is it over?

Arriving this summer at the New York Knicks, Guerschon Yabusele could already have a change of scenery according to The Athletic. The next few weeks promise to be eventful for the Frenchman.

After a first forgettable stint in the NBA with the Boston Celtics between 2017 and 2019, Guerschon Yabusele won his bet last year by making his comeback in the prestigious North American basketball league. By leaving Real Madrid for the Philadelphia Sixers, although he had then lost a lot of money to try his luck in the NBA again, the Frenchman had above all shown good things to the point of signing last summer with the New York Knicks, a candidate for the title.

Unfortunately for him, the first months of the “dancing bear” within his new franchise did not go as well as he had hoped. Indeed, with the Knicks, the Olympic vice-champion with the Blues in Tokyo and Paris does not have the same performance as last year (3 points and 2.2 rebounds on average) and therefore plays relatively little (less than ten minutes in general). However, according to The Athletic, Yabusele could already be transferred.

Yabusele transferred by February 5?

“The loudest noise around the Knicks in the league is that they are open to trading Guerschon Yabusele, the biggest signing of their last offseason. (…) Several NBA executives think that the Knicks will have to add an element to have a chance of moving Yabusele before the deadline,” writes journalist James L. Edwards III on this subject.

“I don’t want to lie to you, it’s very difficult. I am a competitor above all, this is not a situation I thought I would be in when I arrived here,” the main person admitted to AFP a few days ago. It could therefore well be that the Knicks part ways with Yabusele by the trade deadline, on February 5. Thanks to his small salary ($5.5 million this year and 5.7 next year) and his contract (there is a “player option” next summer), several franchises could take advantage of this to jump at the opportunity.
