The list of biathletes who will travel to the Milan-Cortina Winter Games includes the name of Julia Simon but also that of Camille Bened but not yet that of Jeanne Richard. Eric Perrot and Quentin Fillon Maillet will lead the Blues.
The Milan-Cortina objective took more weight for the French biathlon team. After the World Cup stage organized in Grand-Bornand, the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) validated a first list of nine athletes who obtain their ticket for the Olympic events.
Currently leading the general classification of the World Cup, Lou Jeanmonnot will obviously be there alongside Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, who will defend her title in the mass start, and Océane Michelon. Despite the controversy surrounding her, linked to her conviction for theft and fraud followed by a suspension for the start of the season, Julia Simon will be one of the six French women to make the trip to Italy.
Bened will be, Richard put in competition
The fifth ticket goes to Camille Bened, who is reaping the benefits of her very interesting start to the season with a third place during the individual contested in Östersund. While the French women’s team has the maximum quota of six places, the last name is still pending. Present with the Bleues at the start of the season before being demoted to the IBU Cup, Jeanne Richard will compete with Paula Botet and Gilonne Guigonnat for this last Olympic sesame. As for the men’s selection, Quentin Fillon Maillet will be there to defend his individual and pursuit titles, he who brought back a total of five medals from Beijing.
Parrot with Fillon Maillet, Jacquelin and F.Claude
Second in the World Cup rankings behind Johan-Olav Botn, notably with a victory during the Hochfilzen pursuit, Eric Perrot is also selected for the Winter Games, like Emilien Jacquelin and Fabien Claude. Here again, the Blues have the maximum quota and two places remain to be distributed in the coming weeks. Oscar Lombardot, Antonin Guigonnat and Emilien Claude are candidates to recover them by January 26, the deadline set by the International Olympic Committee for the transmission by the CNOSF of the final list of athletes selected for Milan-Cortina. All this knowing that, among the six selected, only four biathletes will be able to start an individual event.
