At the end of his contract next June with the Sharks and announced as leaving for Japan, Siya Kolisi has finally decided to return to the Stormers, where he played between 2013 and 2020.
After recently extending Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, the Stormers have just made another big move on the transfer market. Indeed, while he was announced as leaving for Japan, Siya Kolisi will ultimately stay in South Africa and will make his comeback within the franchise based in Cape Town, where he has already played most of his career between 2013 and 2020 (89 matches). The news was made official this Tuesday.
At the end of his contract with the Sharks next June, the South African third row (34 years old) was coveted but preferred to make a family choice with this return to his roots. “Siya is a national icon who has always maintained a close relationship with our team and our supporters. He is also a father who wants to be with his children as often as possible”reacted Johan Le Roux, the executive chef of the Stormers, in a press release.

Kolisi: “I have incredible memories”
“We have an excellent crop of third lines in our team, including many young leaders. Siya will be able to help develop these young talents like no one else in the project that we have set for ourselves until 2029”for his part declared John Dobson, the director of rugby of the South African franchise, about the signing of the Springbok captain.
“I have incredible memories from my early years at the Stormers. I have never forgotten the way the fans took to me during my formative years. My family is in Cape Town and it was important for me to be closer to them. This new contract allows me to return to the club that has contributed so much to making me the man and player I am today”explained Kolisi about his choice to join a team capable of aiming for titles in the United Rugby Championship and Champions Cup.
