Off the coast of Martinique, on stormy seas, men from the French navy board a fishing vessel suspected of drug trafficking. Weapons in hand, the soldiers take aim at the crew. The scene was filmed by the military’s on-board cameras.
The ship flies the Greek flag, but is registered in Poland. Deemed suspicious, each cabin is searched. In the hold, the soldiers found what they were looking for: a hundred carefully packaged bales of cocaine. The five sailors were arrested and the cargo was unloaded at Fort-de-France in Martinique: 138 packets of cocaine, for a total weight of 4.200 tonnes.
These are regular operations in this area. “This new intervention brings the weight of narcotics seized this year to more than 35.7 tonnes (…) in the Antilles maritime zone”indicate the Armed Forces in the Antilles. Seizures which are up 27% compared to last year.
