Author of an exceptional 2024-2025 season, Ousmane Dembélé already sees his future at PSG becoming complicated.
Author of an exceptional 2024-2025 season, concluded with a Ballon d’Or and a The Best trophy, Ousmane Dembélé seemed to be a lasting part of the Paris Saint-Germain project. Under contract until 2028 and now in his third season at the club, the French international meets the sporting criteria set by Parisian management to consider an extension. But the discussions promise to be more delicate than expected.
According to The Parisianthe salary policy put in place by PSG could constitute a first point of friction. For several seasons, the club has favored a relatively contained fixed salary, supplemented by a variable part indexed to the number of matches played. A system which raises questions in the case of Dembélé, regularly hampered by physical problems, and which could generate disagreements between the two parties.
Especially since the extension of the attacker is not considered a priority internally. Still according to the Ile-de-France daily, the files of Fabian Ruiz and Senny Mayulu, both under contract until 2027, are considered more urgent by the Parisian sports management, led by Luis Campos. Enough to postpone, at least temporarily, the Dembélé case.
Playing time, a source of frustration
On a sporting level, the situation is not ideal either. Having recently returned from a long hamstring injury, the Ballon d’Or saw his return disrupted by illness. Absent against Metz, he had to make do with coming on during the Intercontinental Cup final against Flamengo, won on penalties. Careful management of the staff which, according to Canal+, annoys the player, frustrated by his short playing time and convinced of needing minutes to find the rhythm.
Established in the Coupe de France against Vendée Fontenay Foot, Dembélé recalled his importance by scoring a goal and delivering an assist, armband on his arm. PSG still wants to extend it, assures The Parisianbut under conditions, with the maintenance of a system of remuneration based on merit and playing time, similar to that established since December 2022. A formula which had already complicated discussions with Gianluigi Donnarumma and which could, this time again, make the negotiations more tense.
