Businessman Stephan Français, boss of Thomson Computing, presented a project to take over the Orléans site of the Brandt household appliance group, in liquidation, on Wednesday December 24 during a press conference in Orléans (Loiret). The plan plans to hire 150 employees, compared to 350 currently in this factory of the former French industrial flagship. The project aims to continue part of the production of household appliances, and to add that of electronic products.

On December 11, the courts declared the liquidation of the household appliances group, the president of the Centre-Val de Loire region, François Bonneau, announced to AFP. Some 700 group jobs were to be deleted after this decision by the Nanterre Economic Activities Court (TAE). Brandt was in great difficulty(New window) since its placement in receivership at the beginning of October. The company suffered in particular the consequences of the crisis experienced by the large household appliances sector, linked to that of real estate. This sector suffered a further decline in sales last year (-3.9%), after having already declined in 2023.

On Wednesday, the Minister of Industry, Sébastien Martin, called for “the rigorous assessment of the solidity of projects and the examination of all options in a spirit of responsibility”in a press release sent to France Inter. “Any avenue for recovery deserves to be examined carefully, but none can be taken for granted without in-depth analytical work”he added.
