Currently 8th in the ATP rankings, Lorenzo Musetti spoke in the columns of the Gazetta dello Sport about his results for the year 2025, and he took the opportunity to reveal his ambitions for the coming year 2026.
Author of a remarkable year 2025, Lorenzo Musetti invited himself into the prestigious class of players who have reached the top 10 in the ATP rankings. A year full of success for the 23-year-old player who takes stock with the Italian media Gazzetta dello Sport: “This year was full of first times which made me proud and conscious. Among my highlights, I would certainly cite the Monte-Carlo final, the two semi-finals in Rome and Madrid, my debut in the top 10, my first semi-final at Roland Garros, the quarter-finals at the US Open. Then, even though it took some effort, I can’t not mention my qualification for the Finals. Too bad I arrived a little physically exhausted…”
A nice picture for this year 2025 alone for a determined player who still finds areas for improvement in view of the new season which is taking shape. One of them was to recruit José Perlas to complete his technical staff. A choice that he takes the time to explain: “The desire to add someone to the team was born during the week in Paris, at Roland Garros. I was coming off a very good period, but I felt the need for something different, which could bring something new to me, to Simone, to the whole team. Someone who could bring experience: José has a lot in this regard. Everything is going very well, the work continues and I think it gives us a lot of ideas to try to close the gap a little with the best in the world.”
“Closing the gap to the top two”
Now the father of two little boys, Lorenzo Musetti intends to capitalize on his good year 2025 to continue and get even closer to the top places in the ATP rankings locked by Jannick Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. In any case, it is in this direction that his thoughts tend when evoking his objectives for the year to come: “Be always more constant to close the gap with the first two. During the season I had the opportunity to face Sinner and Alcaraz and I always got beaten. But the important thing was to gather information, and I understood what I could improve on. »
As for his short-term ambitions, the 23-year-old tennis player makes no secret: “I want to reach the second week in Australia: that’s my initial goal. Last year, I was close to the goal, then I lost a match that could have gone differently (against Ben Shelton) and which would have opened the table a little. And then if everything goes as I hope, playing the Finals without having to travel around the world for eight weeks. Tennis, like life, is made up of episodes. »
