In this second poster of the evening on the occasion of NBA Christmas Day, the San Antonio Spurs once again took on the Oklahoma City Thunder (117-102), for a third victory in a row against the reigning NBA champion.
The San Antonio Spurs scored a third success of the season this Thursday evening against the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a match dominated head and shoulders (117-102). While Victor Wenbanyama was on the bench to start the match, as has been the case since his return from injury, in order to preserve his minutes and not see him relapse, the Spurs were quickly able to count on a De’Aaron Fox (29 points at 12/19, including 3/4 from 3 pts and 2/2 from throwing) on fire in this first quarter.
In a lively start to the match, the two teams went blow for blow, and it was the Thunder who first took the reins of this meeting, thanks to a 7-0 initiated by a 3 point from Jalen Williams. However, the Spurs manage to always stay up and will be active at the very end of the first quarter, with an 11-0, including 5 points scored by an excellent Victor Wenbanyama (19 points at 6/12, including 2/3 at 3 pts and 5/5 on the throw, 11 rebounds), author of a double double in this match.
The Thunder couldn’t do anything
In the second quarter, Mitch Johnson’s men came back with the same intentions they had at the end of the first quarter and continued to impose their rhythm in this match. Nevertheless, the Thunder held on and were only nine points behind at halftime, in a pleasant and offensive match. In the second half, “OKC” tries to get back on track and returns to the floor well. However, the Spurs, perfectly in place, do not intend to give in and continue to increase the score, to the point of having up to 17 points in advance.
While the Thunder came back ten points behind thanks to a good start to the fourth quarter, Mark Daigneault’s men continued to make their effort to get back into this match. Unfortunately, they remain too clumsy (11/44 at 3 points) to hope for anything. A not enough effort and the Spurs will manage to manage an end to the match which will see the back of the OKC bench get a few minutes as the match was over. New victory this season for San Antonio against the defending champion. The Spurs consolidate their second place in the West, just behind the Thunder.
