More than three-quarters of the contents of these trains will be manufactured in Mexico and in particular in Ciudad Sahagún, not far from Mexico City, the brand’s first assembly site in North America, explains the press release. The project will, according to Alstom, allow “create and maintain several hundred jobs” in engineering, project management and manufacturing.

This contract “stimulates the Mexican railway industry, promotes technical specialization and strengthens the network of local suppliers”says Maite Ramos, Alstom’s general manager for the Northern Latin America region, quoted in the press release.

The diesel trains will be deployed on non-electrified lines and will reach a maximum speed of around 165 km/h.
