A fourth success in a row which further confirms the good form of the players of the “Roca Team”, by taking the scalp of a prestigious team in the process. A meeting that Elie Okobo and his team took the right way, scoring the first four points of the match, before it was balanced and the two teams took full advantage of it.
A first quarter that Real Madrid pivot Edy Tavares will totally dominate, with 15 of his 21 points scored in the first ten minutes. Despite everything, it is Matthew Strazel, on a superb action enhanced with a bonus throw, which will allow Monaco to take a very small advantage (21-20, 10th). In the second quarter, Monaco continued to make their effort, but Real Madrid faltered without ever really breaking away and always remained at a distance from the Roca Team who only had a four-point lead at the break.
Campazzo was everywhere, in vain
In a meeting where Monaco was able to count on its offensive players, like Elie Okobo (22 points), Mike James (15 points) or even Matthew Strazel (12 points), the Roca Team started its third quarter perfectly with a 10-0 in three minutes to take back the reins of this match. Led by an immense Facundo Campazzo, with a double-double and author of a superb performance (28 points at 9/12, including 6/7 at 3 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists), Real Madrid remains in contact. And, at the very end of the third quarter, it was Gabriel Deck and Chuma Okeke who put the two teams back to back before entering the last ten minutes of the match.
While everything has to be done again for Monaco, which managed to manage this match, the start of the last quarter remains palpable and the two teams respond to each other from one action to the next. Only, seven minutes from time, Nikola Mirotic made two three-pointers in a row and Monaco inflicted a 12-0 on Real Madrid. While the Mass seemed to be said, Monaco was scared when Facundo Campazzo decided to catch fire to finish off the match. In the space of two minutes, the playmaker scored 14 points, including four three-pointers. A crazy feat, but not enough to come back to the level, and it is ultimately Monaco which wins for the eleventh time in this Euroleague campaign. For their next Euroleague meeting, the title holders will travel to Barcelona on Tuesday December 30.
