Prices continue to fall at the pump. Motorists, encountered on the morning of Saturday December 27, realized this: “It’s quite nice, it still allows you to drive a little cheaper, for now.” Diesel and unleaded fell by 7 cents in one week. One nurse had gotten into the habit of filling up halfway. Today, she can afford to do it all. “I arrived at almost 100 euros for a full tank. There, we save almost 10 euros“, she rejoices.

During the week, fuel prices reached their lowest level in more than three years: 1.60 euros for unleaded and 1.53 euros for diesel. Very near Lille (North), a retiree regularly fills up to go see his grandchildren. He clearly noted the decline in recent days: “It was more than 1.69 euros, 1.70. So it feels good, especially after the holidays.”

At the origin of this drop, a cheaper barrel of oil. In 2025, exporting countries produced more black gold and demand decreased. Farida, an architect, drives a lot: 320 euros of fuel in November. She hopes to see the rating go down further: “We still prefer to have to pay less with everything we have to pay, especially for energy. This is very good news.”

But the fall in prices should not last, assure the oil companies. From January 1, they will be made more contribution by the State. Prices could rise by 4 to 6 cents per liter.
