On a series of six straight victories in the regular season, the San Antonio Spurs fell at home on the night from Saturday to Sunday against Utah (114-127). Holder, Victor Wembanyama was the most prominent of the evening while the best performance of the night was to the credit of Anthony Black (38 points) for Orlando.
But what is happening to Jazz? In difficulty since the start of the regular season (19 defeats in 30 games), Utah suddenly woke up for Christmas. The franchise based in Salt Lake City not only beat Detroit (leader of the Eastern Conference) but has just defeated San Antonio, second in the West, on the night of Saturday to Sunday at the Frost Bank Center (114-127). And with Victor Wembanyama in the starting five, please! Back as a starter after his calf injury on November 14, the Frenchman was the best scorer of the match with 32 points, 7 rebounds, 5 blocks at 12/21 shooting but transparent from afar (0/4).
Despite the presence of the French pivot and despite the ongoing good series of six victories in a row including two against the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City, the Spurs fell at home even though they had started the game very well, reaching 40 points scored at the end of the first quarter (40-32). Utah ended up reacting by using (brilliantly) the long distance shot to stay in contact and then overtake their evening opponent. With up to 17 points behind after the break, San Antonio woke up to go for the victory but got tripped up again in the final seconds. Next game in two days against Cleveland.
The black dominator Jokic
With 38 points scored for 6 rebounds and 5 assists, Anthony Black was the top scorer of the evening. The point guard was invaluable in offering the victory (by a short header) to the Magic against the Nuggets (127-126). Note that Nikola Jokic finished the game with a triple-double (34 points, 21 rebounds, 12 assists). As for the other French players in the NBA, we note the new good performance of Maxime Raynaud (19 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists) during the Kings’ success against the Mavericks (113-107). Rudy Gobert (6 points, 8 rebounds) could not prevent the defeat of the Timberwolves on the Nets floor (107-123), just like Zacharrie Risacher (4 points, 4 rebounds) against the Knicks (125-128).
