Ahmed Néjib Chebbi denounces a political trial and refuses “any judicial masquerade”

Political opponent Ahmed Néjib Chebbi published, on the evening of December 28, 2025, a message addressed to public opinion in which he denounces what he describes as “political prosecutions” and calls into question the conditions of his trial.

Three years of prosecution, a late arrest

Prosecuted for almost three years for membership in a terrorist conspiracy and plotting against state security, Ahmed Néjib Chebbi claims to have benefited, throughout this period, from total freedom of movement allowing him to pursue his political activities normally, until his arrest. He specifies that this took place in compliance with procedures.

However, he is surprised that his transfer from Mornaguia prison to the court is now presented as an imminent danger to public security, a justification that he considers incoherent and revealing, according to him, of the intentions of his accusers.

A trial described as political

In his message, Ahmed Néjib Chebbi rejects any participation in what he describes as a judicial setup intended to satisfy a logic of revenge by those in power. He recalls having acted for more than fifty years in strict compliance with legality and transparency, stressing that his career, his probity and his patriotism are known to Tunisians. The accusations against him, he asserts, do not even convince those who make them.

Saying he is driven by a clear conscience and intact confidence in the Tunisian people, he believes that his trial is above all political and that its outcome will be as well. He affirms that the judiciary, as an institution, is foreign to this affair, accusing certain judges of having agreed to submit to political power to the detriment of their independence.

Loyalty to principles and trust in history

Ahmed Néjib Chebbi concludes by reaffirming his attachment to his principles and his commitment to a free, just and democratic Tunisia. Convinced that history always ends up restoring the truth, he says he trusts the collective memory of Tunisians and their ability to distinguish justice from arbitrariness, believing that if the tests pass and the lies collapse, the truth remains.

Ahmed Néjib Chebbi was arrested on December 4, following the announcement of the appeal verdict in the so-called “plot against state security”sentencing him to twelve years in prison. Opened in 2023, this file targets several opposition figures and is based in particular on anonymous testimonies.
