A great celebration for OL

After its defeat in the Europa League against Tel Aviv (0-6), Olympique Lyonnais celebrated its 75th anniversary with a quiet victory against FC Nantes (3-0), 11 against 10.

And suddenly, everything is much better for Olympique Lyonnais. After a start to the season beyond expectations, the Rhone club has been stalling for a month, with a series of five matches without victories in all competitions.

In a few days, everything was gone again. Les Gones outclassed Maccabi Tel-Aviv (0-6) in the Europa League on Thursday evening, and they put on another show on Sunday at Groupama Stadium, against Nantes (3-0), to properly celebrate the club’s 75th anniversary.

In the first half, Paulo Fonseca’s men struggled to really worry Anthony Lopes, who was playing for the first time in front of the Lyon public in another jersey. But the match changed just before returning from the locker room, with an intervention by the VAR, to signal a play deemed dangerous by Junior Mwanga, excluded (43rd).

OL are smiling again, Satriano too

At 11 against 10, OL quickly made the difference. Abner Vinicius opened the scoring after a first shot from Tyler Morton was repelled by the post (1-0, 51st). And the much-maligned Martin Satriano, who had not scored in the League since April 2024, took the opportunity to find his way to goal with first a return (2-0, 70th) then a well-cut cross (3-0, 77th).

Unhappy until the end, the Nantes residents saw the nice goal of young Bahmed Deuff refused because of a small fault at the start of the action reported by the VAR (86th). The Canaries, without a victory for five matches now, are now play-offs. Les Gones are looking upwards again and are in 6th place.
