We knew the “plane mode”, now there will also be a “car mode” to prevent the driver from being distracted by his phone when driving.

A new technology automatically locks the driver’s phone to leave access only to GPS and privileged contact calls.
This mode activates automatically as soon as the car starts and will block all the notifications, and almost all the phone applications. You have to know: 80% of drivers recognize using their mobile at the wheel. While as we know, phones are responsible for around 10% of body accidents in France. Most often because of the lack of attention.
The “car mode” cannot be deactivated because it will depend on the vehicle. The system works in two parts: a module in the car, connected to the starter who will then communicate with a watchtower app installed on the mobile phone. Both operate in tandem: if you have not installed the application or if you put yourself in plane mode, the car will not start.
Normally this should not block passenger phones. The sensors would be precise enough to find out where the phone is to the nearest centimeter. He will therefore be able to differentiate between use by the driver or by the passenger. If he spends his phone or if the driver brings a second without the application, again, the car will be blocked. So it’s quite radical.
This only works on vehicles in which the famous sensors have been installed in the passenger compartment as well as a module on the starter. This is why this is used today only on business fleets, especially with carriers.
For individual cars to be affected, this will have to become compulsory (such as the seat belt or the speed limiter). This will therefore necessarily go through a change in regulation. It will also be necessary that other suppliers develop equivalent technologies, because we would not want to create a monopoly situation on safety equipment.
